I know when we were considering the move to 30A, I was overwhelmed with questions so I wanted to create a place to share our journey along with community info to help you with your move to paradise!
All About Us
We are the Collis family, originally from Martinsburg, WV, but we have lived in Inlet Beach, FL in the 30A area for over 3 years. We always dreamed of retiring to the beach in South Carolina until we visited 30A for the first time during the C years. We fell in love with the area and said why wait until we retire! We started looking for homes right away. We thought we wanted to live close to the beach but quickly realized we didn't want to be in a short term rental area. Once we found Watersound Origins, we knew that was the place for our family. We started building a house while still in WV which gave us time to sell our house there. A year later, we moved to 30a! At the time we only knew one person here!
One of the great things about moving into a new construction area is that everyone is new! Instead of being the new family on the street, every family is new, many brand new to the area, which makes making friends easier. Every evening we would sit outside in our front driveway, playing with chalk or riding bikes, making new neighbor friends daily!
Since that first house we built, we went on to build a few more, and buy and sell a few short term rentals. We are currently building our 3rd house in Watersound Origins and will sell the one we live in once our new house starts construction. For us, we love new construction getting to choose our finishes! Our oldest daughter was 6 when we moved to Florida, she is now 10! She started school at Dune Lakes Elementary, and now attends Ohana Institute. More about schools here. Our youngest daughter, we adopted at birth from Florida and she is now almost 2 years old!
My husband, Jacob works remotely for his family construction company in WV and I'm a Realtor here in 30A. In his free time, Jacob enjoys golfing at Watersound Club. My personal favorite thing to do is sit on the beach and watch my kids play in the sand! We also love playing pickleball together!
We absolutely love living in the 30A area. There's so much to do for families, our favorite activity being to go to the Watersound Club, linked here. We have made so many friends at the club and it's like living on a cruise with Bingo games, Trivia nights, Outdoor movies, a private beach, pools, playgrounds, tennis, pickleball, golf and more! If it's in your budget, I highly recommend joining.
